Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about LumaPal.
What is LumaPal? ▼
LumaPal is a compact device that projects AI-powered holographic characters into your child's room. The characters sing, teach, tell stories, and respond to your child's voice. No screen, no headset, no glasses — just a glowing, interactive friend that grows with your toddler.
What ages is it designed for? ▼
LumaPal is designed for children ages 0-5. The AI adapts content based on your child's developmental stage — from gentle lights and lullabies for infants, to first words and nursery rhymes for toddlers, to full conversations and phonics for preschoolers.
How does the hologram work? ▼
LumaPal uses advanced LED projection and precision optics to create a 3D character that appears to float above the device. Combined with a depth camera that tracks your child and a microphone array that hears their voice, the character feels alive and responsive. It works best in dimmer lighting, making it perfect for bedtime routines.
Is it safe for my child's eyes? ▼
Yes. LumaPal uses LED projection that meets IEC 62471 eye safety standards (Risk Group 0 — no hazard). It's no brighter than a standard nightlight. A proximity sensor automatically dims the projection if your child gets too close to the device.
Does it record my child? ▼
All audio and video is processed entirely on the device. Raw recordings are NEVER sent to the cloud or stored anywhere. Only anonymized text transcripts and learning metrics sync to the cloud (with your consent). There's a physical hardware kill switch that electrically disconnects the camera and microphone whenever you want.
Does it work without internet? ▼
Yes! Characters and their core content are cached on the device. Offline mode supports songs, stories, and basic interaction. Advanced AI features like adaptive conversation and development tracking require a Wi-Fi connection, but the core experience works offline.
What characters are included? ▼
Every LumaPal comes with three original characters: Stella (a musical star who teaches ABCs and colors), Luna (a gentle moon for bedtime stories and lullabies), and Breezy (a playful cloud for counting games and physical activity). Licensed characters from popular children's brands are on our roadmap as downloadable packs.
Will there be licensed characters like Cocomelon or Bluey? ▼
That's the plan! We're building LumaPal as a platform where licensed characters can be added as downloadable packs. We're actively pursuing partnerships with major children's IP holders. Join the waitlist to help us prove the market and make those deals happen.
How much will it cost? ▼
The target retail price is $199, with early-bird pricing available through our upcoming Kickstarter campaign (starting at $149). An optional subscription (LumaPal+, $9.99/month) unlocks adaptive AI features, development tracking, and parent dashboard reports.
When will it be available? ▼
We're targeting a Kickstarter launch in 2027 with retail availability later that year. Join the waitlist at lumapal.net to be first to know when we launch and to get exclusive early-bird pricing.
What's the subscription for? ▼
LumaPal+ ($9.99/month) unlocks the AI adaptive features — personalized learning paths, developmental stage tracking, weekly parent dashboard reports, and cloud sync across devices. The device works without a subscription (characters sing, play, and tell stories), but the adaptive AI is what makes LumaPal truly grow with your child.
